#BioTechStory: Andrea Steeves

Thank you to Andrea Steeves of Radiance Aesthetics, Hillsborough NB,  for participating in the May #BioTechStory.

How long have you been working in this beauty industry?

I graduated from the aesthetics program in 2001 and have been working since then – so 21 years.

When did you begin offering Bio Sculpture?

I started using Bio Sculpture 19 years ago! One of my classmates from college had started using the product range, and absolutely loved it – so I decided to give it a try.

How did using Bio Sculpture change your business?

My clients instantly loved the products; I did not have to convince them to use it so there was no looking back once I made the switch. I feel that Bio Sculpture has a wider range of both color gels and treatment gels, so that has been a no-brainer in how it changed my business. For me as a technician less filing/ dust has been important for the safety and health of both my hands and allergies. Bio Sculpture has always set me apart from other salons because it is a premium product.

What is your favourite Bio Sculpture Product? The Vitamin Dose: I use it for soak off in the salon, I retail to clients for homecare as well. It smells amazing!

What is your favourite Bio Sculpture Colour? My favourite has always been 2066 Denim (please bring it back!), I also really love Amy from the EVO range.

If you could be granted one Bio Sculpture Wish, what would it be?

A Gel Colour that does not need a topcoat, it already has it built in.

What are some of the most notable nail trends you have seen over your career?

First, I always have hated rhinestones – so I am happy to see that trend fade. I do love that since I started it has moved away from predominantly French Manicures to Color Manicures. I love working with the Bio Sculpture Colors, they are also a great advertisement for my work as they stand out!

Do you have a favourite memory about Bio Sculpture?

I remember going to my first large Spa Show in Montreal (in 2006-ish), and the Bio Sculpture booth had by far the largest crowd – you couldn’t even get near it! I was working with the product for a few years at the time and I remember thinking, I have made the right decision on this line.

Why have you stayed with Bio Sculpture all these years?

My clients love the product, and physically for me as a technician it is so much easier on my health with less filing (wrists), and allergies (dust). On the rare occasion I have someone new arrive with another brand it reminds me how easy I have it. I hate to remove other products, it is SOO MUCH WORK!

After such a long career, what advice would you share to a brand-new Bio Sculpture Technician?

Give yourself lots of grace as you trial and error in your attempts. Even after almost 20 years, I still can find myself learning new ways to better my application technique. Don’t stop learning, be sure to keep up with training and try and stay current about new products as they come out!  The Vitamin Dose: I use it for soak off in the salon, I retail to clients for homecare as well.
